Located on the roof of Sama Gaza’s Vocational Training Center, the Rooftop Garden is a practical learning space that combines environmental awareness with hands-on skill development. In a camp setting where space and resources are limited, the garden demonstrates how small-scale urban agriculture can be both accessible and impactful.
Participants are trained in planting, maintaining crops, and sustainable agriculture techniques, gaining skills they can apply for household use or small income-generating initiatives. Beyond training, the garden also serves as a direct source of fresh vegetables and fruits, supporting food access within the community.
Importantly, the Rooftop Garden extends its impact beyond the center itself. Members of the community are encouraged to take seedlings and plants to grow at home, allowing families to develop their own sustainable sources of food. In this way, the garden promotes self-reliance, strengthens community resilience, and spreads knowledge beyond the training space.
More than just a garden, it is a model of how limited spaces can be transformed into opportunities for learning, sustainability, and community empowerment.
